What is an International Driving Permit?
An International Driving Permit (IDP) is a document that translates your national driver's licence into 12 languages. It is used alongside your original licence so authorities and rental agencies abroad can read your credentials. It is a translation document, not a standalone licence.
Is this a government-issued document?
No. The IDP is a translation of your existing licence and is not a government-issued document or a replacement for your driver's licence. You must always carry your valid national licence with it.
Which countries accept the IDP?
The permit is recognised in 189+ countries that follow the 1949 Geneva and 1968 Vienna Convention formats. Acceptance can vary by country and by individual rental agencies, so we recommend checking your destination's requirements before you travel.
How long does it take to receive my permit?

How long is the permit valid?
You can choose a validity of 1, 2 or 3 years. Some countries only recognise a 1-year validity, so it is best to confirm with your destination's traffic authorities.
